This article is the first of a series that addresses the money aspect of martial arts, it is intended to provide you with strategies and techniques that WILL add money to your club income and as such allow you live a better standard of life, by the end of the article you will be able to charge more money, earn more money and keep all your students happy. We have done a hell of a lot more, laid a hell of a lot of groundwork and suffered a hell of a lot of grief for no other reason than to cross hands with another human being who is seeking the same knowledge we once sought. So, a little free advice for all of you who are the next generation of teachers, the up-and-coming with your eyes on being an instructor of the arts: There is no money to be made in martial arts.

My master told me «Never open a martial arts school for money,» simply because you will dread coming to ‘work’ everyday and won’t teach true martial arts. Getting students will be difficult unless you turn into a McDojo don’t do that. The best martial arts schools that I’ve been to have been in small, crappy buildings. The masters barely broke even every month to pay their bills. Even the top masters in the world usually personally train just students in a small, sweaty gym. Keep training in what you’re doing.
