I still have to work more-or-less regular business hours i. I can’t surf all day and code all night , but working from my house without a commute is fantastic. I am an IT professional that works from home. I come and go as I please so finding time to surf is never a problem. IMO it’s one of the better fields to be in if you surf. I agree about IT. There is no educational requirement just that you understand the physics, chemistry and math involved in dive planning and show you are capable. What would be helpful if you want to make money is to take additional courses that aren’t even related to diving, believe it or not. Having a second language as well as a hospitality diplomas such as hotel or resort management courses make those people stand out over a person with the same diving experience that don’t have those extra credentials. Do instructors make good money? Some do, some don’t. Does a refrigerator repairman make good money north of the arctic circle? A lot has to do with supply and demand in a geographic location, cost of living expenses, visas required and a lot of other factors. Just being a scuba instructor isn’t good money. If the only thing you bring to the table is the ability to teach student and lead dives, then you will probably make enough money to survive. I have a full time, non-scuba job, and I teach on the side. My summers are pretty crammed with with classes and such, and I can describe the money that make as a nice supplement to my real job. I know plently of people that will just teach scuba diving in a tropical location for a couple years. The consider it a long vacation, since they are not saving any money during that time.

They’re likely to be floundering around in the whitewash, so just paddle out to where the waves actually break. The coach should give way to the more experienced people, I believe. If one of em drops in on me I cheer them on but I look at the coach and make sure I get an apology hand wave. I get burned by learning people all the time. It’s fine really, but I always tell the instructor to watch out for people who arent as nice.
